Psychological Therapy
Seeking support is a powerful and brave step toward leading the life you want and deserve. There are many reasons people may choose to speak with a Psychologist – often it’s because you’ve noticed a change in the way you are feeling or behaving, or because of worrying or intrusive thoughts. Some reasons may include (but are not limited to);
– A desire to live a happier, more meaningful life
– Treatment for mental illness or related symptoms
– Unbiased support
– Relationship difficulties
– Self-exploration
– Emotional regulation
– Trauma that continues to impact your life
Our focus is on creating a collaborative space, utilising treatment modalities that align with your goals.
Treatment modalities include;
EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing
By taxing the working memory (usually with lots of 'finger waggling') EMDR helps people "process" and distance themselves from traumatic memories. It’s like rewiring the brain’s response to past trauma so that the memories don’t trigger as much emotional pain or distress anymore.
Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT)
When something happens, we have an automatic thought which impacts how we feel and behave – at times this can be a very negative cycle! CBT helps people examine their thoughts more objectively to identify the thoughts that are helpful versus unhelpful and to learn how to break the auto-pilot. This newfound perspective and skill often leaves people feeling happier, more self-aware and more in control.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Rather than focusing on “fixing” which at times can add to distress, ACT focusses on acceptance of the thoughts, feelings and experiences that we can’t change, embracing the full range of the human experience. Skills in ACT then focus on remaining present and in control of your responses ensuring they align with your core values.
Schema Therapy
Schemas or ‘negative life beliefs’ can lead to low self-esteem, lack of connection to others, problems expressing feelings and emotions and excessive worrying about basic safety issues.
People can learn to recognise which schemas and problematic coping styles affect them the most. Schema therapy enables changes in clients who feel hopeless about their self-destructive patterns, because these problematic behaviours may seem so entrenched that they appear to be part of their very identity.

Assessment and diagnosis - ADHD
ADHD can be debilitating. There are many reasons to consider obtaining a formal diagnosis, it can help to consolidate what you already suspect about yourself and at times can be an important step in obtaining supports to ensure you or your family member has the best opportunities for success.
In conducting an assessment, your clinician will:
⦁ Take the time to understand your unique strengths and difficulties and the context of your concerns.
⦁ Use an evidence-based approach to inform and support clinical judgement and always take your best interests into careful consideration.
⦁ Collaborate with families and key people in your life (where relevant and your consent is given – confidentiality is paramount!)
⦁ Consider alternate explanations or diagnosis to ensure nothing is missed

Supervision
I have a passion for supporting mental health professionals in a supervisory capacity including Provisional Psychologists, Social Workers, Crisis responders (i.e Lifeline) and Counsellors. The scope of my work is aimed at providing support and debriefing following particularly challenging situations as well as aiding in ongoing professional and personal development.
In a mentoring session you can expect:
– Space to explore challenges that have come up for you
– Facilitation of personal reflection from a strengths-based perspective to aid professional development
– Focus on ethical, evidence-based and person-centred practice
– A genuine motivation to help you achieve your goals and an understanding of the challenges we face!
Team support and debriefing
I love working with teams to facilitate productive case-discussions and create positive team and working environments where staff can leave feeling heard, supported and less alone in the challenges they may be having or risk they are carrying.
This may be ongoing or utilised as a one-off following particularly challenging experiences and is delivered via telehealth or in person in the Illawarra/ Shoalhaven regions.
